Proverbs 23:17-18

Let not thine heart envy sinners:
but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
For surely there is an end;
and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

The temptation to envy the wicked can be great, especially when times are going badly for you.  During those moments a question sometimes arises, “what is it all for?  Is it worth doing right?”  God says emphatically, Yes!  Just endure a little while longer and you will see it was worth it all.  He promises your expectation (hope) won’t be cut off.  He will deliver the reward He has promised and it will be worth more than any earthly pleasure.

Remember the words of our Lord when He said, What shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul.  When the lost person arrives in hell they would gladly trade their pleasures from this life for a way out of the torment they are facing.  Then it is too late.   On the other hand, for the person who chooses Christ, they will see that the suffering they endured produced a good effect for them and it will no longer be remembered for all of the good they will experience forevermore.
